Jometa Brunson

Mrs. Jometa Whetstone Brunson, daughter of the late Joe and Evia Zimmerman Whetstone, was born on April 11, 1933 in Calhoun County. She transitioned to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at The OAKS, Orangeburg, South Carolina. Jometa was baptized at an early age at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cameron, South Carolina. Where she was an active member of the Sunday School and Usher Board Ministry. She was educated in the Public schools of Calhoun County and graduated from Wilkinson High School, Orangeburg and later attended Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. Jometa was united in holy matrimony to the late Thaddeus E. Brunson. Their loving union was blessed with two children, the late Bernard T. and the late Gwendolyn D. “Gwen”. Thad and Jometa moved to Washington, DC and resided on Hanna Place for many years, until the sudden death of Thad. The family relocated to Orangeburg in the late 60’s. Jometa began her illustrious career in Orangeburg at her brother-in-law’s Howell’s Package Store, Weaver’s Appliance Store, and JD’s Fish Market. She retired from Orangeburg School District Five as a Teacher Assistant. She was preceded in death by her two children, sister, Janie “Johnnie” King, and her son-in-law, Robert A. Pendarvis. Jometa leaves to cherish her precious memories: Two grandsons, Marc Brunson of Upper Marlboro, MD; Robert D. Pendarvis of Orlando, FL; daughter-in-law, Sharon Brunson of Bowie, MD; Three step grandsons, John, Robert (Bobby) and Demetrius Conway all of Washington, DC; Two great-granddaughters, Daijah Etienne- Brunson of San Jose, CA; and Tashicia (Al-Wayne)Morgan of Odenton, MD; and Four great-great grandchildren, Maxwell, Melanie, Micah and Major Morgan; Special Caregivers, Joe Shivers, Jr. and Jometa’s girls: Valerie R. Dash, Cynthia M. Dantzler, Avis Howell-Gathers and Reinell Thomas-Myers all of Orangeburg, SC; brother-in-law, Daniel Brunson; sister-in-law, Alma Brunson both of Ladson, SC; devoted and loving cousins, and a host nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
