Marion Haynes

Marion “Bumpy” Haynes, son of the late Addison Haynes Sr. and the late Ada Jamison Haynes, was born on April 20, 1932 in Elloree, SC. He answered God’s call, trading Earth for Eternity on January 31, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Mae Haynes, daughter and son- in-law, Bertha Mae (Bennie Lee) Robinson; son, Johnnie Lee Haynes; 1 Great Granddaughter; 4 Great Great Grandchildren, and 9 siblings. Marion received his formative education in the Calhoun County Public School System. In 1962, he was employed by Tri-County Electric serving many faithful years until retired. After retirement, he worked part time at Al Jenkins Funeral Home. Marion joined Brown Chapel AME Church at an early age. He was a member of the Board of Trustees, once serving as Chairman Protem; Choirs - Gospel, Mass, Men’s, Sons of Allen, and 5th Sunday. He also served as Chairman of the Kitchen Committee and a member of the Jubilee Juniors. Marion “Bumpy” Haynes was well known everywhere he went. He was a great husband, father, uncle and friend. He was also a shining example of a true man of God. In his early years “Bumpy” coached the Brown Chapel Baseball team, and the B.C. Stingers, where there were many victories. Bumpy was also known for his Famous Bar-B-Que, butchering, and his love for softball/baseball. He would follow Elloree High/Lake Marion School Basketball team wherever they would go. He had his very own seat on the bleachers. If Bad Boys was having a game, he was there. If he wasn’t at a game, he was at home either sitting on the porch or watching Atlanta Braves, his favorite baseball team play. Marion leaves a legacy of love, memories and service to his daughter, Willie Dean Bethea of Orangeburg, SC; 9 grandchildren, Jacob Benjamin of Columbia, SC; Stephanie Haynes, Orangeburg, SC; Michael Robinson and John Robinson, both of Elloree, SC; Tracy (John) Brantley, Brian Robinson and Tron Benjamin of Orangeburg, SC; Jason Watson of Cameron, SC and Dustin Goodwine of Brooklyn, NY; 24 Great Grandchildren, 20 Great Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. Mr. Marion Haynes 91, exchanged Time for Eternity on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Calhoun Convalescent Center in St. Matthews, SC. The family will receive guests at the residence 109 Margaret St. Elloree, SC from 2:00 to 7:00 PM daily. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Haynes will lie in repose one hour prior to service at the church.
