Clarence L. "Ant" Corley

July 1, 1943 - April 26, 2022

Mr. Clarence Lee Corley was born July 1, 1943, the youngest of five children, to the late William David and Avanelle Moorer Corley. Clarence was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was baptized at an early age at Bull Swamp Baptist Church where he joined and remained a member until his death. Clarence was proceeded in death by his siblings, Captain Eula Mae Corley, Lee Verne Corley, and William Bennon Corley, and one son, Hubert Matthews. Clarence attended Felton Laboratory School, Sharperson Junior High and graduated from Wilkinson High School. Clarence’s career began at Orangeburg Regional Hospital for many years until he retired. He was a supply Tech while working there. He also maintained a second job as a referee for the City of Orangeburg Recreation Department, calling many baseball and softball games after working all day. Clarence met and married the love of his life, Rose Tyler over 48 years ago and to this union, two daughters were born, Jacquelyn Corley and Valerie Corley Caffey. Clarence was always willing to help others and was a man of his word. He was at his happiest when a group of young people called “THE CREW” would come over and visit. He would cook, fry fish, entertain, and enjoy having fun. The relationship with the crew has lasted for 50 years. Clarence loved to fish and he loved his Yorkie, TRIXIE. Favorites included fried fish, porkchops, shrimp, chicken, potato salad and dancing. He was an extraordinary, husband, father, uncle, brother, son, grandfather and friend who will forever remain in our hearts. Clarence leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Rose Tyler Corley, his two daughters, Jacquelyn Corley of Grovetown, Georgia, and Valerie (Buria) Caffey of Portsmouth, Virginia: brother David (Barbara) Corley of Pensacola, Florida: four sisters- in-laws, Dr. Ann Butts Corley, Mattie Greene, Mary Snell, and JoAnn Tyler, all of Orangeburg, S.C: Four grandsons, Damien Drakeford of Lancaster, S.C., Tariq Matthews of Bronx, New York; Xavier Corley and Jordan Caffey of Portsmouth, Virginia and one granddaughter, Jada Caffey of Portsmouth, Virginia and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
