Eugene Thomas

June 21, 1944 - May 18, 2022

Mr. Eugene Thomas, 77, also known in the community as “Geno” or “Gene” was born June 21, 1944, in Colleton County, Lodge, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Boyd Curtis and Hesser Lee Thomas. He departed this earthly home for eternal rest on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at his residence in Orangeburg, SC. Eugene received his formal education from the public schools of Colleton and Orangeburg counties. During young adulthood, he relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where he met and married Harriet Jean Hill. In this union, two children were born: Audrey Thomas and Eugene Lewis Thomas. Due to the death of his wife, Eugene then returned to Orangeburg, SC with his 2 children. During his life he later fathered another son: Nashawn Joel Dingle. Eugene was a devoted member of North in Orangeburg (Nazareth) United Methodist Church where he served as an Usher, assisted in maintaining the church grounds, and always one of the first to give in “special offerings.’ Furthermore, Eugene liked to hunt, fish, share his testimony and volunteer to speak at funerals to pay tribute to a loved one or friend. He was also viewed by many as a father figure, mentor, and a person who would give a helping hand, speak words of encouragement and wisdom. Eugene worked for the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Upon retiring, he returned to work as a Site Collector with Orangeburg County. Mr. Thomas had an impeccable work ethic as he was reliable, dedicated, cooperative, and self-disciplined. Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, father and mother, three sisters: Agnes Jenkins, Carolyn Lee, and Sadie Murdaugh, and two brothers: Harry Thomas and Curtis Thomas. Those remaining with loving and endearing memories include his children: Audrey Thomas-Brown, Eugene Lewis Thomas, and Nashawn Joel Dingle; four granddaughters, Andrea Weal, Amber Brown, Armani Brown, and Adrianna Dingle; one grandson, Amonti Dingle, two sisters, Edna Lawton and Venzena Davis; two brothers, Charles Thomas and James Thomas; one sister-in-law, Othelia Hill Curtis and 6 brothers-in-law, Joseph Davis, James A. Hill, Jimmy Hill, Levonne Hill, Ronnie Lee Hill, Gerald Hill, and a special friend Gayle Warren along with her children Wanda Spigner, Leslie Warren and Nathaniel Warren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
