Selena Riley

Mrs. Selena Green Riley, 86, was born December 23, 1934 in Calhoun County. She was the daughter of the late Carrie Shirer Green and Elijah Green. Her heavenly call was answered on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital following a brief illness. Selena or “Lee” as she was affectionately known was educated at St. John School in Calhoun County. She graduated from Freemont High School in North Carolina. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and joined St. John Baptist Church in Cameron, SC. Later she moved to New York where she was a member of Washington Temple in Brooklyn, New York. Lee returned to South Carolina to care for her parents. During this time, she met and married her late husband Thomas Riley, Jr. She then became a member of Andrew Chapel Baptist Church. There she served faithfully on the Gospel Choir, Senior Choir, Community Choir, and the Christian Burial Association. Selena was also name “Lady of the Year”. She loved her church and was diligent to work of the Lord. Mrs. Riley worked in retail for many years. While in Brooklyn, New York she worked at Soil Clothing Company and Local 91. Upon returning to South Carolina, she continued to work in retail and was a homemaker until she retired in 2001. Selena was preceded in death by her parents Carrie and Elijah Green, husband Thomas Riley, Jr., a brother Moses Shirer, a sister Annie Green, and her stepson Timothy Riley. Those left to cherish her loving memories are her stepdaughter, Linda R. Mintz (Irvin) of St. Matthews, SC; a devoted cousin, Betty Glover of Orangeburg, SC; two very special cousins, Bill Shirer of Sumpter, SC and Rebecca “Bae-Bae” Brown of Timmonsville, SC; five grandsons, Irvin Timothy Riley (raised in the home) of Orangeburg, SC, (Special grandson, that lived with her while attending college)Myron Mintz of Bloomington, IL, Timothy Keon Williams(Pandora) and Kelvin Guinyard of Rock Hill, SC, and Lucretus Martin of Orangeburg, SC; two granddaughters, Katrisa “Trell” Johnson (Charles), Bluffton, SC and Tina Williams of Charlotte, NC; two God daughters, Alaquondria Glover and Betty Bowman; and a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, other relatives and friends. During the visitation and service, we ask that everyone practice social distancing and wear a mask.
